DSpace --
What Can DSpace Do? (http://dspace.org/introduction/index.html)
Research institutions worldwide use DSpace to meet a variety of digital archiving needs:
* Institutional Repositories (IRs)
* Learning Object Repositories (LORs)
* eTheses
* Electronic Records Management (ERM)
* Digital Preservation
* Publishing
* and more
Very interesting on the Handle System --
Handle System comes with DSpace for assigning digital content unique identifiers; so, the objects are not just identified by their locations (a given URL, for example). It gives the ability to change locations without changing names also applies to ownership.
I am kind of seeing this as the UPC (Universal Product Code) barcode :-) .
To implement it, we will a prefix that is like domain name for DNS - I think :-P . One prefix costs $50 to register and $50 per year to maintain it in the GHR. In general, these fees go to defray the cost of running the GHR.
