Youtube and H.264?

So, is it true that YouTube is going for H.264 instead of Flash?

It was a big decision for our current streaming media project to go for H.264 or Flash. There is no doubt that Flash is probably become the most popular for 'Web' TVs, but is it good enough for 'Internet' TVs that the media format has to be supported in ALL appliances? Also, how about playback and high quality in HD? We decided to stick with H.264 since that the content will be able to be delivered pretty anywhere including non computer based devices at the living rooms. The initial payload to get a player installed is bigger comparing to flash, but it is most like one time deal and, probably, iTunes and podcast have already pushed for computers to have iTune installed that is with Quicktime player already.

I was kind of joking that Flash based streaming is like Fast Food; convenient, but might be less tasty - 420w/4:3 (no offense; I go to Jack In the Box all the time!). H.264/MPEG (or, WMV) might overcome the initial higher 'user friendly' and maintenance cost when H.264 becomes commonly the embedded codec for HD devices.

But, on the other hand, will this YouTube change become a new opportunity for other Web TV providers? When Mcdonald's becomes a steak house.... Yep, Fast food never die!
