The design is to take advantage of Web technology for the Digital Signage implementation. Through the Web2.0 techniques, the proposed solution will reduce the long term TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) by utilizing the current campus resources and eliminating the needs of additional server equipment or software. It is also designed to integrate with the existing campus web infrastructure and maintenance workflow in mind.
1. Technologies:
* Blog/RSS
* Dynamic HTML/Javascript/Ajax
* Campus Web Hosting Encvironment
* Bulldog TV (available for integration)
For the low technical support maintenance, it is my recommendation to focus on Client Side technologies.
2. Definitions:
1. Screens:
This is a group of web pages to be rotated automatically. Each screen can have different templates. The sequent is adjustable by the web designers.
2. Template:
The layout and theme (i.e. CSS) and dynamic code with EMBEDDED content. For example,
1. the Headlines page will contain a dynamic display of a RSS feed;
2. Screen display of other websites;
3. the Video page will contain links to the Bulldog TV or YouTube videos; and so on.
3. Design:
* Screens will be automatically rotated through the HTML meta tag and RSS feeds will be updated when the screen is reloaded.
* Javascript and Ajax technology will be used for content updates.
* No database required.
* Some PHP may be used for customize 'embedded' content if necessary.
4. Work:
1. Set up a campus website
2. Create a storeboard on the contents to be displayed *
3. Design Screens -- the Art design *
4. Convert the Screens to HTML Templates
5. Programming
6. Documentation
7. Training
