It is time for Mobile!
Since 1990's, Internet extended the reach of Distance Learning from 'cable distance' and (distance learning) classrooms to the any telephone plugs and initiated the development of digital based communications; mainly, a-synchronized through email, WWW, and, yes, IRC! That moved online learning to the I model, ake I-Learning.
In the late 1990's and 2000's, the high speed Internet technologies allows the enrichment of the digital content delivery through rich media presentations as well as IPTV streaming videos . It also enabled realtime peer to peer interactions and synchronized group collabrations, i.e. IM and digital White Boards and Webnars. Through Learning Management Systems, i.e. Blackboard and Moodle/Sakai, E(lectronic)-Learning is no longer just an enhancement of learning and teachning, but also become an essential component of learning and teaching.
What is the next? It is my prediction that 2010's will be the generation of m-Learning. Instead of 'Just in time' e-Learning padegogy, it pushs to 'Anytime and Anywhere.' Mobile technology along with already popular Social Networking will push the curremt 'Instructional' based online 'Teaching' system to the 'Learner centered' online collaborative 'inter-connected' networks.
